As others have said, the 5S is better if you can afford it. The 5c is nothing more than an iPhone5 in a colorful, plastic case, so it will not be supported as long. The 5s also has a better processor, the m4 coprocessor which gives it better battery (some say), the fingerprint reader, and so forth. If money is no object, go for the 5s. If you have to upgrade now but can't spend a lot, go for the 5c. If you can wait until the end of 2014, do so, and get the iPhone6 when it comes out. reports and rumors suggest it will be quite the upgrade - 5-inch saphire-coated (AKA scratch-proof) screen, better camera, new look, and the usual hardware improvements and longer support.
