The least expensive, quickest, and complete way to back up one's iPhone is with 
iTunes. iCloud gives 5 GB storage. Anything more requires annual payment. 
iTunes, on the other hand, can utilise whatever storage is available on one's 
computer.

Recovering from iTunes takes significantly less time than recovering from 
iCloud. After all, USB 2 or USB 3 is very significantly faster than a WIFI 
internet connection.

That said, iCloud permits automatic back up every 24 hours without the user 
ever having to do anything after the initial set up. 

Finally, iTunes provides much more flexibility than iCloud around what to back 
up, what to restore to the iPhone, and backing up / restoring apps that are no 
longer available on the App Store.
