I would suggest that you only use an original Apple Lightning cord.  I had some 
inexpensive ones that used to work fine in the past but with the last several 
upgrades they no longer allow iTunes to recognize the phone.
When I plug the phone into the computer with the imitation Lightning cord it 
does not recognize it no matter which port I use. Then when I switched to the 
original Apple cord iTunes recognized the iPhone.

Can you try a different USB slot on your PC? Are yu sure the USB is all the way 
in? Have yu double-checked the cable is firmly plugged in at the phone end?
