We get all kinds of alerts in our city and county, and I hardly ever get the alert on my phone.

They are pretty loud and pretty annoying. From what I know, you have to be in the geographic area of an alert for them to sound. For instance if an alert was given for Edgewood, and you were in Baltimore, you wouldn't get the alert.
