Hi Wendy, Yes, I use emoticons on my phone all the time. To enable the emoticon keyboard, go to settings, then Gen., then keyboard, then international, then add new. Now select Emoji.
You will end up with another button next to the dictate button which says new keyboard. Double tap that and the emoticon keyboard will appear.
