No, you do not need to do anything except to activate the keyboard. If you go across the bottom you'll see that there are different categories of different emoticons. Another thing you can do is to use your emoticons and put them in keyboard shortcuts so that it only takes a couple of keystrokes in order to insert emoticon. You may want to investigate how to build keyboard shortcuts. Good luck!
