Hi,

If you have a good connection, LTE or 4G should work fine. I've downloaded 
music, used my phone as a hot spot, used GPS apps that needed data, and watched 
a Space Shuttle lift-off. Of course, if you have a weak signal, all bets are 
off with any device. Even if it's an LTE signal, if it's only one bar, it may 
very well not work. But with a reasonable signal, you should be fine. My guess 
is that you simply didn't have a very good signal for some reason. Too bad, 
though - it sounds like a very unpleasant experience.
