In my experience, I have Cox Cable with cable modem and LTE on my 5s from AT&T. I get about the same speeds on both. LTE I believe is their 4g version. Never the less, I can download 4 hundred messages in 1 or 2 minutes give or take. I remember the days of dialup so this is blazing fast!

Subject: Re: Curious if iPhones are totally useless if you are not on Wifi

I am betting the signal in Queens NY must be awful as the few times I have tried to do anything when I am not on Wifi the experience has been miserable. I did not notice how many bars I had at the time of this comedy of errors. At least I was able to laugh it off, yes but it was quite frustrating. Was not sure if FaceTime did work when you are not on Wifi but the one time I needed it it did not.

Hi,

If you have a good connection, LTE or 4G should work fine. I've downloaded music, used my phone as a hot spot, used GPS apps that needed data, and watched a Space Shuttle lift-off. Of course, if you have a weak signal, all bets are off with any device. Even if it's an LTE signal, if it's only one bar, it may very well not work. But with a reasonable signal, you should be fine. My guess is that you simply didn't have a very good signal for some reason. Too bad, though - it sounds like a very unpleasant experience.

Best,
Anna

Hey all,

I am curious are iPhones pretty much useless unless you are on wifi? I had heard from some people that 4G and LED are almost as good as wifi, but I have always noticed a lot of apps take forever to load if I am not on wifi or crap out. I was just coming home from the store and the bag my stuff was in ripped and I was so proud of myself as I thought I could FaceTime with my Mom to help me find everything as I was in no man's land with no one around. I pressed the hold button to launch Siri said call Mom, and got what is your Mom's name? Are you kidding me, yes, before today I have called my Mom, and she is listed on my iPhone as Mom, after three times of Siri asking what my Mom's name was, I called her manually. Then I asked her to FaceTime and go figure even though I clicked answer FaceTime would not work and I was on LED. I thought FaceTime worked on LED now? Regardless of FaceTime the fact that apps take forever to load when not on Wifi and I am on AT&T are others having an awful experience when not on Wifi? Eventually someone walked by and picked up my stuffs neither my foot sweep of the area nor my guide dog found anything.

Thanks,
