To my knowledge there is no way to stop it from using Four square because it is part of the app. Hence the Name Blind square and I am pretty sure there would be no less data usage if you did not use Four square. As had been mentioned several times, the data usage is not all that much. I only have 2 GB of data to use and never come close even though I use Blind square all the time.
You do not have to join Four square to use the points of interest it provides.
