udev 039 is ancient :)

You should use at least 050, as we do with Centos 4
(that's the same as rhel4).
This rpm :
http://www.matteobrancaleoni.net/OLDSTUFF/udev-050-7.99_1.vs.i386.rpm
is udev for centos4 but should work also on rhel4.
