*before* logging on
and *after* loading the document
with the applet embedded into it
you can point to the applet
and the version number will appear in the browser status bar
at the bottom-center of the Cosmo/Communicator combo
or at the bottom-left of the WorldView/Explorer combo
(I just tried them both)
