Perhaps a re-read of Sir Clarke's "Childhood's End" is in order. :-)
Indeed. Hard to believe it was published 53 years ago... but it could have been yesterday. Author Arthur was 36 at the time - in his prime; and will likely be seen as the preeminent prophet of the 20th Century. I hadn't consiously thought about that book in years, but recent post was unmistakably influenced by it.
There is an interesting disclaimer on the credit page: "The opinions expressed in this book are not those of the author" ... meaning cryptically, one might suppose, that no opinion is really our "own."
Go figure...
