I agree. Sometimes a grand simplification in technology eliminates a whole class of problems. A really good battery probably would accomplish this. However, cold fusion would be better in some ways. For example, it would open up the solar system for exploration, and it would allow things like implanted heart pumps that run for decades. (A long-lasting super-battery that is recharged by induction every day would be nearly as good.)
