I wonder if Watson knows that, using the same criteria, he would learn
that his preferred race would be found lacking when compared to the
Asian persuasian?

It was actually Crick and the notorious rye fungus which gave us the
spiral staircase.  After his chemical epiphany he is alleged to have
said, "Watson, come here, I need you."  :-)
