You've completely misunderstood what I was saying. Don't be too
literal with stuff like this.

There *is* a memory penalty for using a graphics card, in terms
of RTG software and 'swap space' for the screens. I'm surprised
that your CGX system takes up 4Mb on bootup to be honest, that
seems like an awful lot. You must have some huge mother of a
screen open ;)

AAaaaanyway, back on topic. Your CGX system has a penalty for
the RTG software, but not for Voyager. If Voyager implemented
double-buffered scrolling, then his AGA machine would have
it's memory requirements increased - you need to allocate enough
memory for that 'second' buffer.

If you have an RTG system, the card's blitter is fast enough and
the display format chunky enough to make that effect almost
impossible. Therefore double-buffered smooth scrolling is not
necessary.

So to implement the smoothing on AGA systems, you have a memory
penalty in the terms of that second buffer. On RTG systems the
smoothing is not needed, therefore there *is* no penalty with
regards to that second buffer.

Get it? You shouldn't be so quick to try and get one over on
people.
