I attacked the statement as I felt it was in error and would mislead other
Amegans..Do you Get it?? I did not attack the author .. We share ideas,
knowledge and opinions ..
Attack them is fair game .. Attacking each other is dunb and immature...
SM You've completely misunderstood what I was saying. Don't be too
SM literal with stuff like this.
Want to be understood ??? Say what you mean the first time .. What you said
was in error.. Graphics cards give you great video but does not solve
memory shortfalls..
SM There *is* a memory penalty for using a graphics card, in terms
SM of RTG software and 'swap space' for the screens. I'm surprised
SM that your CGX system takes up 4Mb on bootup to be honest, that
SM seems like an awful lot. You must have some huge mother of a
SM screen open ;)
Feeding a 1940 Amiga monitor or the AcerView 76 c Changes nothing in the
system vis-a-vis memory usage ..
SM AAaaaanyway, back on topic. Your CGX system has a penalty for
SM the RTG software, but not for Voyager. If Voyager implemented
SM double-buffered scrolling, then his AGA machine would have
SM it's memory requirements increased - you need to allocate enough
SM memory for that 'second' buffer.
SM
SM If you have an RTG system, the card's blitter is fast enough and
SM the display format chunky enough to make that effect almost
SM impossible. Therefore double-buffered smooth scrolling is not
SM necessary.
SM
SM So to implement the smoothing on AGA systems, you have a memory
SM penalty in the terms of that second buffer. On RTG systems the
SM smoothing is not needed, therefore there *is* no penalty with
SM regards to that second buffer.
I would love to share knowledge and learn from you .. Personal attacks
concerning possable nefarious intent on my part is not
acceptable...Agreed??
SM Get it? You shouldn't be so quick to try and get one over on
SM people.
SM
Regards
