I also have my own portal page. Which contains links to all sorts of things.
But I really prefer to have a few buttons on the top. If I need the extra
window height it's easy enough to right click on the button bar to hide it.
Turning the "allows label striping" on seems to have fixed things though some
of the names look a bit odd when truncated.
One neat thing I like is being able to export your bookmarks as HTML. So visit
all the pages you want, add them to your bookmarks, save as HTML, instant
portal page, very neat.
