I was also having a blank screen showing up, but managed to fix it.
Try the following procedure:
Settings/Plugins.../Vpdf/Settings/General/Zoom
It's by default set to +1.
Change it to 'Fit page'.
OK
Settings/Save Settings
Quit
Restart
Worked for me after that. Hope this helps anyone.
