Don't really understand any of this. I downloaded the latest V beta last
night along with the latest image decoders etc, and ANN was absolutely
fine. Loading was definitely faster (probably down to image decoders).
I've noticed alot of people complaining about crashes and the like on
sites I don't have problems with. The secret........I recently copied my
entire harddrive contents to backup, re-formatted both HDs and
reinstalled a clean version of OS 3.1, and then OS 3.5. With no other
patches running in the background V3 is now actually very very stable
(applies to both current release and latest beta versions). In addition,
I've also started re-installing all application software from scratch
(including MUI, Voyager, Miami, Yam, etc.....). Still plenty more to do!
Installing these one by one (that way I should narrow down which one(s)
make my system unstable).
Subsequent to all this, the only time I've found V crash so far is when
I come across graphics intensive sites where I run out of chipmem.
Unfortunately, both the release and latest beta of V promptly crash
without giving me a notice saying I'm out of chipmem. Fortunately, I've
only come across one of these sites so far.
The next patch to reinstall from scratch may have to be FBlit, although
I'm more than a little dubious about the stability of this; Seem to
recall that things became a little more unstable with that before. More
tempted to say what the hell and buy that graphics card I've been
promising myself for ages.
Rgds
