Tom,

As I said in my question, I might be way out of line, and I apolo-
gized, then. No discourtesy nor disrespect was ever meant. I am a user
of a lot of Amiga programs and packages, as you are. I also have tried
to register and pay for as many of the shareware and demoware programs/-
packages as I can afford, when I find I use them a lot. My main aim was
threefold: a. just out of curiosity, after having read an article in
Action Amiga Magazine; b. I was beginning to feel as though I were one of
the few who really did pay, based on some of the comments I read in some
of the messages on this list; and, c. I wanted to just give a pause for
thought. Nothing malicious was, is, or will ever be intended.

I have registered and paid for Miami, MUI, Voyager, AWeb, AEMail, and
other programs and packages. Some, like the compression and virus pro-
tection programs, never made it clear whether, once paid and registered,
would I have to pay again, each time they made a small change in their
programs, considering that they were coming out with something new, in
very fast succession. Maybe, I should have dug deep, but, I was unsure.
Then there were the times when I could not afford to pay a fee, or the
means of paying were not the most trustworthy way to pay (I would have
to send cash, which I do not like to do.).

It also turns out that most of those who have responded understood
that I was just curious and that I was asking if I am not alone in pay-
ing. It has been truly a wonderful response from those who responded.

Lastly, you asked if I were a developer. To the extent that I wrote
a tutorial for MSH, which is on Aminet, yes. To the extent that I am
active in several users' groups and make myself available to help fellow
members, yes. To the extent that I have programmed in BASIC, COBOL,
FORTRAN, and BAL, I am. To the extent that I have beta-tested for
Expansion Systems, I am. To the extent that I am doing any development
for V, I am not, I am only a user.

I understand your being upset and concerned. I understand your being
curious about my motives. I do not appreciate your starting off by
flaming. I will, though, accept your very pleasant comment, at the end
of your message, as a way of stating that you did not intend to flame.
As such, I accept your hand in friendship and hope to build on it.

                                         Julian.
