Are you saying that the people of DOpus are TO'd with shareware/demo-
ware, and believe that it should all be freeware/public domain? Geez,
are they THAT scared, that they think that they believe that someone who
produces a shareware item is a threat to their commercial product? Are
they speaking for Tao or Amiga, Inc.? Or is this just info being passed
around to the members on the list?
Since you brought up the idea of shareware vs. freeware, remember,
there is also an important difference between shareware and demoware.
Shareware, like JR_Comm and AEMail and MUI, are fully functional as the
basic programs they state they are. The only differences between them
and a registered and paid program are, in the case of JR_Comm, a nag
request will be removed and you will be notified of any update/upgrade,
and, with AEMail and MUI, you have added abilities not available unless
paid for and registered. Therefore, even if you never register and pay
for the program, you can use it forever. Demoware, like Miami, QED, and
V, either is crippled, in some fashion, or conks out after either a
certain number of minutes, hours, uses, etc., depending on what the
programmer decided, unless registered and paid.
I see nothing wrong in providing demoware and shareware, but, if a
program is, in fact, demoware, calling it shareware is misleading and
unfair to us users. If this is an accidental error, I accept, except,
why not just call it "Demoware," in the first place?
Anyway, that is my rant and MHO.
Julian.
