Hi all,
I got vss2svn working but I'm getting some error messages after
conversion and I'm wondering whether to worry about them or not. While
vss2svn is running, it prints out a whole bunch of error messages like
the following:
...
Can't retrieve revisions from physical file 'SFBAAAAA'; it was either
destroyed or corrupted at vss2svn.pl line 773
Can't retrieve revisions from physical file 'TFBAAAAA'; it was either
destroyed or corrupted at vss2svn.pl line 773
Can't retrieve revisions from physical file 'UFBAAAAA'; it was either
destroyed or corrupted at vss2svn.pl line 773
Can't retrieve revisions from physical file 'VFBAAAAA'; it was either
destroyed or corrupted at vss2svn.pl line 773
…
What exactly do these mean? I've spot checked this and it appears like
none of these files actually exist in the data directory of VSS. It
wouldn't bother me all too much, but I'm getting something like 700 of
these errors. Unfortunately, I'm not much of a Perl hacker, and as
such can't get much out of the code.
This means, that you have added a file to VSS and later destroyed it
permanently. So there is still some information about the fact, that you
added an item, but the history of the item itself is lost. Vss is file
based, that means, every item has its own history. Destroying a file
will wipe out the history. The glue between the items are the projects,
where you find the information, that a specific file was added.
