Actually, I find 7.6/4.2 to still be very well "supported" by the TCL 
community.  In fact, if anything, I find a lack of support for the 
peculilarities of 8.0.  This is simply due to it being a fairly new system -- 
it's not like I'm not grateful it's out.  Still, for many of us programming in 
TCL/Tk, 8.0 just doesn't look ready yet.

Does this need an example?  Ok.  I switched to 8.0 and realized that if I 
wanted to preserve the menu behavior of an important application I would have 
to rewrite all the menu interfaces to use the new style.  That just isn't an 
option right now.

So, hey, why not provide a config. option like "Use 8.0" that turns on 8.0 
functionality?
