If I may be so bold to ask, but why? I guess this would be fine with one machine, but what if you had multiple machines on a network. Wouldn't it be easier to click on a name rather than matching an IP address to the machine you want?
Well, the question only asked about networking two machines, and the transfer will take place using ASIP anyway, whether AppleTalk is turned on or off.
(Of course more networking things desperately need to implement the sort of service discovery protocols AppleTalk has had since 1984. Network Services Location Manager just doesn't seem as good somehow.)
