Yes, that's one of the reasons I left UWA CompSci as an employee back in 1997. There are, as would be expected, more issues behind such decisions than are covered in The Australian.
For those who aren't aware of the history UWA CompSci was the breeding ground for MacGeeks such as Quinn, Peter Lewis (who together gave us Internet Config, and many others) and Andrew Nielsen, amongst many others.
