<Snip some very good advice> > You normally cannot use both the crossover port and the socket directly > next-to it (there is normally a line drawn between them.) This is what I would bet the problem is :o) > Finally, I have never heard of an automatic crossover port. Yeap, They are available on high end 3com and Cisco equipment, and as I recently found out also on KingMax 8 port switches, I plugged a cross over cable into a spare normal port (port 2) and plugged the other end into my bromax PCMCIA (card bus (why do they have to keep changing terms for computer standards)) and when I realised and went to unplug it, the link led was on and data was flowing </me shrugs> the cable works both on a cross over port and a normal port so it must have an auto sense on the pair. I will open it latter and confirm with the switch chip to see if it has auto pair capabilities or if it is a part of my imagination (must have IRDA or BT etc working in disguise ;o) Regards, Kat. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
