Seconded. There are many tech mailing lists - I subscribe to a few in my own field - which are spoiled by having this unnecessary and unhelpful kind of response to every question.

In a businesslike technical help list like this, no response is a polite response and it leaves the archives nice and clean for a fruitful search.

And my thanks also for the pointed and helpful advice which list members have taken the time to give to my own newbie questions.
