Hi Martin

Black, but why? From my early reckonings, I could buy a white upgraded to 100gb drive / 512mB Ram for $2104 Edu Au, but a black 80gb / 512mB RAM costs $2159.30 Edu Au. Que, Manuel? Or is it too late in the night for me to comprehend? What's missing?

The same reason why people used to spend the extra $2000 for a 500 Pismo over a 400 - coolness :-) The 500 wasn't that much quicker.........

But at least it *was* quicker. Now the choice is a black Macbook at $2160 edu ($2399 retail) or an otherwise identical white model for $1970 ($2189 retail).

$200 for black plastic. That's a shame - at least the iPod is the same price for black or white.

There is now a single page comparing all the notebook models:
<http://store.apple.com/Catalog/Australia/Images/comparison_chart.html>

But on the outside the 400 and 500 Pismos looked identical. People *will* pay $200 more for an Apple laptop that is black. Look how many Special Edition iBooks and iMacs were sold, with a $500 premium. What scares me is the Macbook seems to be the first Apple laptop since the Powerbook 100 that wasn't designed by Apple (bar the case design) - Sony designed the 100. Easily changeable hard drives, integrated graphics, glossy screen. A lot like an ASUS laptop :-( Great to be able to change drives, though :-)
