Trash the Software Update Preference file :
/users/name/library/preferences/com.apple.softwareupdate.plist
Then restart and you should be ok.

Sorry forgot to add that i have already tried that..
I even installed onyx to completely clean the system to no avail..
Never mind looks like i will have to wait for a combo update (10.4.8)
to resolve the issue (or a complete reinstall)
