The iMac in question is a tray load, which had no video out port.

*But* if you take the back cover off, there is a cable the goes from the
logic board to the analog board, which is the standard d type that was on
all older macs.  You might be able to plug that cable into an older Mac
monitor.

Tried putting the drive into a firewire case?
