Hi all,
Just thought I'd post a follow up to this problem for the benefit of
any future users who have similar.
One week after cleaning out the air intake grill at the bottom of the
iMac, the temperature has stayed consistently in the 55-65 degree
range and the shut down has not occurred since.
Many thanks to those who offered advice
