Hi Ken,

Good to hear that you found the correct sync files and now iCal is working again.

Your Pro Tools problem would be a separate issue.
If it is not functioning correctly you need to post a new Subject email to WAMUG.

Cheers,
Ronni

Hello Ronni,

sorry I'm slow to respond but other factors have taken precedent.

Hi Ken,

You haven't answered these questions yet please.

What had you just done or were doing when iCal Quit & wouldn't reopen?

I had actually dumped some Applications before the trouble began with I Cal.

Have you tried if iCal will open in another User Account on your Computer?

Yes, no go.

If iCal application opens fine in another user account you know for sure it is something wrong in your preferences, not the actual iCal Application.

You have not said if you have a backup which has your iCal Calendars.
If you haven't a backup & you reinstall iCal you won't have any of
your calendar information, which you said you didn't want to loose.

No backup, but I dragged Ical from the G4 & installed it, repaired
permissions but no good.

If you do want to reinstall iCal application: Just follow the instructions
listed in, Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4 to reinstall iCal.
<http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1442?viewlocale=en_US>

Tick only iCal in Applications.

After iCal has been reinstalled, download and reinstall the Mac OS X
10.4.11 Combo Update appropriate for your hardware to bring iCal up to
the most current version.

Well I've just reinstalled I Cal from the disc & done the 10.4.11 combo update & I still get the same message: The App I Cal has unexpectedly quit!

Hi Ronni,

iCal quitting can be caused by damaged preferences files. You could
try this:
These instructions are for iCal in Tiger NOT Leopard (Leopard iCal
has
a file different structure).

Make a backup of your iCal calendars (iCal File menu > Back up
iCal)

The problem is I Cal doesn't open I just get the message that it
quit,
before it opens? Got a lot of settings I really don't want to lose
too...

1. Quit iCal and all open programs

So I can't follow this procedure, I guess anew version may be the
only way
but I can't find a version for 10.4.11

a) Move these files in Home/Library/Preferences to the Trash:
  com.apple.iCal.alarmsCache.plist
  com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
  com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
  com.apple.iCal.plist

2. Launch iCal

Tried this, still won't open?

Where to from here?

Thanks Ronni,

Best,

Ken

If that doesn't help, then the Apple Sync Services database may be
damaged. Try replacing it:

a) Make sure that nothing is syncing (Spanning Sync,.Mac, iSync)
b) Move this folder to the trash: Home/Library/Application Support/
SyncServices
c) Restart your computer

3. Open iCal and give it a few minutes to write out the new
database.

Tried this as well, Ical keeps trying to open but the same message
appears...I just tried to dump the App but it says it's in use...I think it's also affected my recording program Pro Tools, it now has a bug in it.
What can I do Ronni, this is driving me insane!

Many thanks,

Ken

Ken,

Did you do this part above ... (move the SyncServices folder to the
trash etc) ... and restart your computer?
If you have been syncing iCal and there is an event that clashes it
can cause iCal to Quit.

What had you just done or were doing when iCal Quit & wouldn't
reopen?

Have you tried if iCal will open in another User Account on your
Computer?
If iCal application opens fine in another user account you know for
sure it is something wrong in your preferences, not the actual iCal
Application.

Cheers,
Ronni
