Thanks Ronni & thanks to everyone else who replied.

Seems it will be Firewire as my other 3 are, they are Sarotech & have never been a problem. I'm aware of the format, Mac OS extended but have never partitioned a drive so will follow your direction Ronni.

Keep y' powder dry, (stay outa the rain)

Ken's Mac is a PowerPC I think, so to for bootability, the drive would need to be format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled) & the Partition type: Apple Partition Map - for bootability on PowerPC-based Macs.

GUID Partition Table - for bootability on Intel-based Macs
Apple Partition Map - for bootability on PowerPC-based Macs

Yes, I agree I have never had a problem with Western Digital drives.
I've purchased 'numerous' drives from Daniel Kerr & not one has caused me any problems.

Hi,

Daniel Kerr supplied me with a WD My Book a while ago and it has worked flawlessly since I formatted it using the GUID option on my intel iMac. I don't remember having to use any software from WD. Just formatted it
with Disk Utility.

        Hi everyone,

any recommendations for a 1TB hard drive that is readily compatible with Mac & no need for extra instal procedures? Officeworks have a 1TB Western Digital but they really don't work with Mac. it was $179 @ the time but now $219. I bought one a few months back (My Book or something similar) & it just did not work without downloading a heap of stuff from their site. Also an internal 500 gig is needed. Is it PLE computers in Wangarra? Roger mentioned them as a possible source.

        thanks folks,
