Although there's no comparison in quality you can get a 20" BenQ LCD for around $150 and a 23.5" for around $230. Perhaps you'd be better off getting one of those and using your distorted iMac screen as a secondary monitor.

A lcd for a g5 imac 20" will run around the $900 mark if you go to an auth repairer outside of warranty
