Back in the 1960 era, you could look at the prefix of a license and almost  
tell where it was from. Every city or town and a particular prefix due to the  
plates for that town being sent in a batch, all in order.
In 1963 Raleigh was about 30,000 and is now almost 350,000, so it would be  
hard to recognize a plate from a particular area as we did back then. 
BTW, my first NC plate in 1963 was VC-357.
