Folks, Thanks to everyone who offered their feedback. It's much appreciated.
I hadn't realised that the Acrobat reader had swollen to such huge proportions. Practically 9 meg of download is a bit much to ask people to swallow. On the download site if you select the option for broadband download they even tag on a few more 'extras' for good measure. 22 meg of a download! The free word viewer I located was a 4 meg download, but it was for Windows only. Does a cross platform version of this exist? The ideal option would be just to circulate a text only version of the newsletter, but the publications are already established as a Word documents with formatting, so I have to continue to meet that expectation. As has been pointed out, asking existing users what they want is problematic, given that we can assume they are happy enough the way things are. My concern is going forward and whether I am restricting the total audience I can reach by circulating in Word only. Some people have mentioned circulating both Word and PDF versions. This is a solution I'd like to avoid if I could. It entails either of the following scenarios 1. Attaching two files to the mails and sending out a mail that is effectively twice the size it ought to be. 2. Maintaining two separate lists. One for PDF subscribers and one for Word subscribers. I'd have to do this manually and to be honest, it's more work that it's worth for these publications. >From what I've learned here the best route seems to be to stay with Word for the e-mail circulation and offer a PDF for download from the site. I could add a line to the Word document advising of the availability of the PDF on the site so existing users can switch if they want. Our site already features a html versions of some of the publications, but I'll not be able to make a html version for the one I'm working on at the minute as it's for a third party. 1. I don't upset existing subscribers 2. I don't have to do much more work than I already do. Dave, yeah people do tend to keep this stuff. They want to use it in evidence against us whenever we lose them a fortune :-) Thanks for all your help.
