Any reason why you couldn't just do this:

In answer to your question, no. You can't make an ordered list
display numbers and letters on the same list item. If it's absolutely
necessary to structure it the way you proposed (an example contract or
something?), you could just emulate the behavior of an ordered list
using div's and CSS and simply type in the 2a yourself.
