your day-to-day work, do you?

Long shot: is there anything in the event logs?

There are loads of these, from personal experience I know that Norton Utilities 
is decent enough (it comes as part of SystemWorks these days, I don't think you 
can buy it separately any more). Alternatively you could just use regedit to 
manually search-and-destroy any Creative keys, assuming the webcam is the only 
Creative hardware you've got.

If you feel uncomfortable playing around with this stuff, set a system restore 
point (Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools IIRC), or save a backup 
copy of your registry (run regedit, then it's File > Export) first.
