Hmm, IIRC Davical has a bug that prevents Webical from using it:

Not sure if the behavior you are describing is due to this bug though :)

Same here. I have restarted Tomcat, which resets the demo database.

If you can spare the time, have a go with 'supported' CalDAV servers:
- Chandler projects hub.
- Chandler desktop 0.7.1.
- Apple calendar server on linux.
