I use nginx. It's pretty easy to setup that up too (I heard it's more
intuitive than apache.)

For bundled or versioned files, I think you just need to intercept
static file request at apache before it gets to Hunchentoot. That
should work. There may be some quirky edges, but I will keep this in
mind.

Yes, gzip can be turned off. Well, it's not necessary to turn it off.
Every time you modify your original css, js, a versioned file is made,
and a gzipped file of the versioned file is also made, it's a one-time
gzip. Turning it off just means serving the versioned file as suppose
to the gzipped one. But yes, there will be a flag to turn gzip
completely off or just one kind of static file.
