Yes, that's easy, I already do it anyway. It's mostly a question of
the file being written to disk so that Apache could grab it, not just
cached in memory and served by Hunchentoot directly.

Right, it's just Apache has a module for this, and I prefer to offload
as much of static content management to Apache as I can.
