thanks to you guys for responding on this, I am still unable to get
web access but have gained a little more knowledge.
1 I have removed the rewrite rule and connected to www.myapp.com and
viewed the index.html page correctly; so without calling WO apache
works.
2 Using Server Admin and the site tab, I have selected the Options
and turned off Performance Cache
3 Using ServerAdmin and the site tab, the domain name and IP address
are fine.
However, comparing virtual host settings with 10.3.9, I notice that
the virtual host setting in the sites 192.... www.myapp.com.conf
includes a port address of :16080 and this is reflected in the
virtual_host_global.conf - this even though the Server Admin site
entries list the port as 80. In 10.4.8, the Listen and
NameVirtualHost both have a port of :80 I do not know if this could
have a bearing!
I'm stumped.

Hello Clive,
also make sure none of the site is running with performance caching

I have recently upgraded an Xserve from 10.3.9 to 10.4.7 and then
on to 10.4.8 - I ran all the security updates etc., and the
10.4.7 was a new install.
I now find that I cannot access a deployed app even though it is
running in monitor. I can open it using local access e.g.
192.168.1.33:2001, but I cannot access it using a url, -
www.myapp.com
To deploy, I copied a "myapp.woa" to /Library/WebObjects/
Applications and have set the owner and group as appserver and
appserveradm (on 10.3.9 these were run as root).
I also copied the "myapp.woa" into /Library/WebServer/Documents/
www.myapp.com/WebObjects/myapp.woa (stragely though, this file
initially shows as the woa icon, but after restarting the server,
it changes to a standard folder!).
I have tried various ownership and group permissions including
root, appserver, admin, but none have worked. The browser diplays
an error file /Library/WebServer/Documents/www.myapp.com/error.html
I have also had a response "Not found The requested URL /cgi-bin/
WebObjects/www.myapp.com.woa/wa was not found on this server"
In Apache (1.3.33) I have virtual hosts set and for this one the
rewrite rule is:
^/$ /cgi-bin/WebObjects/www.myapp.com.woa/wa [last, passthrough]
Can anybody please tell me what I am doing wrong, including what
ownership and permissions should be on the document root files and
folders.
regards
Clive Roberts
