I did find that message earlier tonight when I was searching for
stuff. Maybe I should set up my dev box to stop using DirectConnect
so that I can be sure my deployment environment better matches my dev
environment. I think I may have found the problem with my deployment
though. It looks like a launch preference may have been in the
Properties file that was causing problems - you know, the file I
never use. :-)
I don't have an explanation for the problems I was seeing with all
deployments earlier yesterday but I think that may explain part of
the problem with this specific app.
Thanks Aristedes and Lachlan for your advice.

1. In scenario one JavaMonitor seems to be reporting that the app
is trying to launch. However, the instance never actually
launches and nothing gets written to the log path that is setup
for the instance.
2. In scenario two JavaMonitor seems to be reporting that the app
is trying to launch and the log file actually indicates that the
instance launched and is waiting for requests. By all appearances
it is running - except to JavaMonitor. It continues to report
that the instance is trying to launch and if I leave the monitor
page and come back it reports a death for the instance.
In my experience most issues with Javamonitor stem from confusion
about host names.
The following message is what I always google for when
reconfiguring things...
