If you want something permanent along with the logs, instead of relying on external transient resources I could try setting up an infobot which could be stuffed with facts on the elections and such ( ala http://radar.oreilly.com/archives/2006/04/the-perl-infobot.html ) which might be a fun diversion for a day.
