Sounds good to me.  A survey done a while ago showed that nearly all 
Webware users are using Python 2.2 or newer, so I don't think this is an
issue.

Yes, I'd be hesitant to make too many changes just prior to release.
Waiting until after the release to check in your changes sounds like a 
good plan to me.
