I am using weewx version 3.6.2 with an Oregon WMR180 weather station. Looking at the wind data it appears that the maximum gust and the maximum average wind speed are the same.
I am using $day.windGust.max for the maximum wind gust and $day.windSpeed.max for the maximum average windspeed (as per the documentation). Output can be seen at weather,while.org.uk - today the average windspeed has been very low but the max average is showing as 9mph - the same as the maximum gust.
