Details:
This patch replaces the [music_volume] tag for a more generic [volume] tag.
It has the following attributes:
*music: Sets the music volume to be this percentage of the preferences
volume. Goes from 0 to 100. Example: music = 50 changes the music volume to
half of the preferences volume
*sound: Same as "music", but for sound volume.
Setting an attribute to 0 "mutes" that volume source, while setting it to 100
resets it to the preferences value. On default, volume associated to that
attribute is unchanged. Somebody suggested that sudden volume raises might be
harmful or annoying, so I'm only allowing volume silencing.
The original implementation regarded only music volume, but changing sound
volume has a lot of fun uses as well. For example, you could imagine a
scenario where the hero is struck by a deadly poison. His senses dim, and the
sound volume lowers as a result. Or a wizard casting a silence spell, or an
assassin under a cloak of silence...
Bell and UI volume changes are unsupported for now because I can't see much
scenario use for those changes. What do you think?
Thanks to boucman, soliton and ancestral for comments and suggestions.
