Update of bug #23047 (project wesnoth):
Status: None => Wont Fix
_______________________________________________________
Follow-up Comment #3:
> Having units at rest using northward-facing sprites is poor UI because it
hides many of the distinguishing characteristics players use to identify units
at a glance.
Just imagine if all game designers out there thought the same. Sigh. Perhaps
it's a surprise the first time you spot a unit from behind (even though
features like cloaks and helmets *are* visible), but you learn its rear-facing
"distinguishing characteristics" and become able to identify it just like in
real life.
I honestly don't think it's too much of a stretch to assume people are able to
tell that terrains on the map are a separate abstraction from unit sprites
(see also: map scale, villages being represented by single buildings, etc.).
