Follow-up Comment #2, bug #24699 (project wesnoth):
The point is the typical player should not be able to access such things
without having to enter debug mode.
Commands like gold, fog, & shroud already require debug mode & can be used to
cheat, and since you can do equivalents in the lua console, it should be
hidden as well.
