A post somewhere a couple of weeks ago pointed to a knowledge base article on this. It suggests to add them using auto-discover as it takes out the hastle of having to configure each interface service. My understanding is the interface service is an SNMP service using MIB II so yes it would have to go through SNMP.

How about manually adding this stuff? And does it have to go through SNMP? -----Original Message----- From: Don McCotter [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, January 16, 2002 9:25 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [WhatsUp Forum] Monitoring multiple interfaces? Yes; try autodiscovering the item's capabilities/services. Rightclick >Properties.... and select the Services icon. For routers, I've generally had an Interface box checked in that display but it depends on how you originally built/discovered the device. In any case, click on 'Auto Discover' to start that function and WUG will survey that box for well known ports and SNMP MIB-2 interfaces, stuff like that. Pretty slick; big improvement in granularity; makes the live links function meaningful. I'm unclear about managing up/down dependencies now that multiple interface devices have been modeled in this product, but all in good time. -Don "Shawn P. I'd like to monitor multiple nics on servers, firewalls and routers - and be able to do this from one icon. Any ideas???
